Witness Borneo’s indigenous tribal people in the far north of the island as they work, socialize and observe traditional rituals in their village. Traditionally the Rungus people live in longhouses built on stilts but the shift to modern-day living has meant that the sight of such longhouses are getting more rare.

The Dramatic headland of the Tip of Borneo & Rungus Longhouse Tour is situated in the northern-most tip of Borneo. It is located in the Kudat peninsula, about 3.5hrs (or 215 kilometres) drive from Kota Kinabalu city.

During the Tip of Borneo & Rungus Longhouse Tour you will visit Simpang Mengayau which means “Lingering Junction” as it is here that the South China Sea lingers and meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east. The sunsets and full moons are spectacularly beautiful. The Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse is a reminder of the treacherous coastline and past shipwrecks.

On the left is the beautiful beach of Pantai Kalampunian. It’s a pleasant, easy stroll to the flagpole, the Globe, and the rocky outcrop that forms the Tip of Borneo. Rungus Long house is located in Kampung Bavanggazo, Kudat.

The traditional dance practices are Tarian Mengigol, Tarian Manaradan, Tarian Mangatip-atip. These dances are regularly performed by the inhabitants. The Rungus people also have their own musical instruments called the Mongurali and the Monundatang. Here’s what it is like to be at a Rungus Long House. Everything is built originally from the jungle! People who live in the Long House still cooks traditional food until today, in the age of modern civilization.


This is the simple itinerary for general information only; the specifics of your trip may vary depending on charges in transportation schedules and weather condition.

  • 7:45 to 8:00 AM – Pick up from your hotel in KK city area and overland journey passing through KK city, Inanam Town, Menggatal Town, and Tuaran Town.
  • 9:30 AM – Stop over at Kota Belud Town (Sunday – will stop ½ hours to visit Tamu Besar – Open Market) / THIS ONLY AVAILABLE ON SUNDAYS.
  • 12:30 PM – Continue journey to Rungus Longhouse located at Kampung Bavanggazo, Kudat and have lunch with traditional style.
  • 1:00 PM – Visit the Rungus Community, the Living Museum, Bee-keeping and the process of harvesting beeswax, honey and royal jelly at Kampung Gombizou.
  • 3 PM – Continue journey to Tip of Borneo and pass Tommy’s Place – famous for being drifted at sea for nine days in early May 2016.
  • 5 PM – Return to hotel.
