Kinabalu Park
Kinabalu National Park or Taman Negara Kinabalu in Malay, established as one of the first national parks of Malaysia in 1964, is Malaysia's first World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO in December 2000 for its "outstanding universal values" and the role as one of the most important biological sites in the world. Located at west coast of Sabah, east Malaysia on the island of Borneo - it covers an area of 754 square kilometers surrounding the majestic Mount Kinabalu which at 4,095.2 meters is the highest mountain in south-east Asia. The Botanical Garden within the park is one of the biggest attraction. Started in 1981 this 5-acre Garden is an excellent showcase of the diverse plant-life on the mountain, as flora from all over the park has been replanted here. The name "Kinabalu" originated from the local dusun word "Aki Nabalu", means "The revered place of the dead." In the past, the locals believe that Mount Kinabalu was the place where the spirits of the dead rested, so they treated the mountain as a sacred place. According to the documentation, Sir Hugh Low was the first person that reached the summit in 1851. That's why the highest peak, Low's Peak, was named after him. The plant is getting less as you move higher. The temperature will be near to freezing point on top, so you better have something to keep your fingers and ears warm. No, it will not snow. But get your raincoat ready. You will need it badly if it rains.
Kinabalu Mountain Lodge ( formerly known as Tinompok Resort ) managed by Kinabalu backpackers crew June of 2010. Kinabalu Mountain Lodge is just located 2KM before Kinabalu National Park. A good place for scenery, moths, insects and bird watching.
