Long Pasia
Ruab Maga or Maga Fall is an another fascinating place to go when your in Long Pasia. Journey will take about 6 hours jungle trekking from the village, where along the way you will encounter historical sites, huge agathis tress and colorful orchids grow wildly in the forest, as slowly you approaching the campsite the mighty Maga Fall can be heard roaring. this is a heavenly place to be, except to get to this place some obstacle have to be challenge mentally and physically. Once in Ruab Maga you will be spending the whole afternoon tour around the sites, one which is the Flower Garden situated only 5 minutes behind the campsites. be careful when walking around this garden because you might step on the orchids When night falls you will be overnight in small but comfortable hut which was built by the local people of long Pasia. Remember to bring extra clothing because temperature can reach below 18 degree, this is a place that you should not miss when your planning to stay a night or two ...
This trip begin either from Long Pasia or from Long Mio, and will take you through different forest types. After a few hours trekking you will reach the top of Bukit Rimau and enjoy breathtaking views over Ulu Padas - Mountains, hills, the villages and forest stretch as far as you can see in every direction, in a very nice campsite not far from this view point. The montane forest is a tough enviroment for plants with trees that are often small with wrinkled branches. certain plant species such as orchids, pitcher and ants plants have over millions of years adjusted to these harsh conditions, they survive by either getting nutrition from leaves falling down or insects. On bukit rimau you will also find the hidden highland lake call senipong which was discovered few years back. While slowly trekking down to Long Pasia or Long Mio you will also see the magnificant Rimau Waterfall with its multi level Waterfall.
Departing on a beautiful trip upriver from Long Pasia you will initially see vegetable gardens and impressive patches of incredible sized bamboo. Futher up river the forest comes closer with hanging trees where branches are almost all draped in ferns and orchids, the boat will stop historical sites of crocodile mound, the old burial sites and the Batu Narit. Depending on the water lever in the river you may now and again jump out and in of the boat. if the water level is too low the journey will have to complete on jungle trekking to reach the campsite where you overnight by the river. It is a once in a lifetime trip through this incredible enviroment.
Another place to visit is the Taman Kerangas or The Heath Forest, it is meant to be the reserved protection of orchids. In the forest you will find both in-situ and ex-situ plants. This means some plants were growing originally in the forest and others are from other areas which has been transported to the forest after being rescue from the logging which is still active till now. The Taman Kerangas is very close to the village about 5 minutes from the main entrance, so if your not into extreme jungle trekking like the Ruab Maga or hill climbing like Bukit Rimau or even the long journey of Matang river then Taman Kerangas is your choice.
